Aimée-Lee Xu Hsien is a Chinese-Irish-Australian writer and director who approaches comedy like it's drama, and drama like it's comedy. The result is irreverent and playful, and gets you in the feels when you least expect it. Aimée-Lee elevates reality through richly detailed production design, bringing a lavish visual style to her work.
She has directed commercials for clients including Volkswagen, MLA, Uber Eats, CommBank and PayPal. In 2025 she was invited to London to be a judge at the D&AD Awards.
Aimée-Lee has written and directed two online comedy series, financed by Screen Australia with Screen NSW and Screen Queensland respectively. 'Pleasant Avenue' (2024) stars Heather Mitchell, Ursula Yovich and John Batchelor, and saw Aimée-Lee nominated for an Australian Directors Guild Award for Best Directing. Her follow up series 'Not Russian Anywhere' released in 2025.
